Piazza San Giovanni and Piazza del Duomo represent the true heart of the city. The two squares host the most important religious monumental complex of Florence, formed by the Baptistery, the Cathedral and Giotto’s Tower that, although built in different times, forms a whole that is stylistically homogeneous. The Baptistery, octagonal in plan, is prestigious not only for its white marble and Prato’s green marble facing with geometrical motives, but also for the three bronze doors by Pisano and Ghiberti, which open on the three sides of the building.
